LaunchBar 50% off today only
I’m demoing some of my favorite mac applications at the upcoming Midwest Tech Fair in Cincinnati and LaunchBar will absolutely make the cut. It’s one of my most-used and most-loved utilities and today only it’s 50% off at MacUpdate.
Some of the quotes from the sale today…
I cannot emphasize enough how important this app is for me. Indeed, like so many others refered, LB is one of the first (if not the first) app to install on my macs. (Note: I also use Alfred, but much less.)
If you have a Mac and you don’t have LaunchBar, today is your lucky day! A true essential — the first thing I install on any new Mac.
LaunchBar is the next-best thing to telepathic communication with your Mac.
I couldn’t agree more, if you don’t own it … get it for $17.49 now.

Mac App Review: Spotless 3
Testing out Spotless 3 from Fixamac today.
“Spotless is a simple utility designed to enable and disable Spotlight content indexing of volumes with the click of a button.” - Ted Landau, MacWorld
Recently Spotlight has been having problems finding files & apps on the iMac. There are two ways to address spotlight indexing issues. Using Terminal is free but can be tricky if you aren’t comfortable going command line.
I don’t mind Terminal but prefer to find shareware or freeware to do the task if it’s the first time I’ve encountered that aspect of the OS. Especially as it relates to problems, I don’t want to make the issue worse while trying to fix it. For that, little apps like Spotless 3 make things much friendlier.
Pros: Messing around with the index files is dead simple. If you depend on Spotlight to find documents and launch apps and don’t feel comfortable in Terminal, Spotless is a sure-fire way to manipulate Spotlight settings correctly.
Cons: $17 is expensive for a utility that you won’t use very often and that basically offers a friendly wrapper for tasks that can be executed in Terminal.
Recommendation: Try it out for free. Fixamac has a 15 second wait screen to test out basic functionality.
Courier in the Mac App Store
I didn’t really understand Courier when it first came out. My workflow didn’t need photo distribution assistance. However, photography is an interest for me in 2011 and I think something like Courier will make my life easier.
I’m a fan of other Realmac apps and with a $4.99 price (80% off) I won’t be terribly upset if it doesn’t cut the mustard. I’m hoping other small developers adopt similar pricing strategies. There are lots of apps I’ve been wanting to try out.
Marking the date, Courier first paid app purchased in the new Mac App Store.
