My Life May Be Half Over But The Glass Is Half Full “As Amy likes to say, there are usually only a few things you need to do to accomplish physical health (e.g. if you want to lose weight, (1) eat less and (2) exercise more.) In this case, it’s (1) don’t eat crap and (2) exercise six days a week, at least two of them with weights.”

3rd Gen Kindle is inexpensive, light, easy to read...
Recently I purchased a Kindle as a gift for my mom. I admit I was a little nervous giving the device to a lifelong paper book buyer. However after she opened it, I knew the device would get a fair shake at gaining her attention and perhaps her conversion to digital books. As evidenced by this release from Amazon the price point is playing a significant role in the device’s success. Amazon...

Variable Bit Recording - New Default Rip Setting
**In the totally irrelevant but historically significant for trite reflection dept**
I switched my default rip rate on iTunes today. Every thing I rip from CD going forward will be at 256kbps with Variable Bit Rate encoding on. Wikipedia offers the best explanation of the “why” behind VBR files.
“The idea behind (VBR) is that, in any piece of audio, some parts will be much...

Evernote 2.0 for Mac out of Beta and available for...
The best new feature, Notebook sharing, has several useful applications in our mortgage practice.
It’s worth a mention that to collaborate on a shared notebook you must be a premium member. However, it’s likely users that wanted this feature have already ponied up for the Premium service.
Notebook stacking is a notable UI improvement and should make the app even easier to manage on a...

On Prisons
This made my day. I love deterrents and receiving two year old prisoner briefs upon entrance to the penal system is definitely a deterrent.
Wouldn’t it be great if the prison system could pull it’s weight? Wouldn’t it be great if the prison system was carbon neutral? Wouldn’t it be great if more prisoners picked up trash near highways in the winter?
Prisons Cut Costs...
Dropbox for Teams
Dropbox has announced a new product. Dropbox for Teams offers 350GB of data for $795/yr. As Dropbox users get comfortable with the service, it’s natural to extend Dropbox into the enterprise. Having one bucket for all your important documents is easier than having them spread around on multiple devices. This new product is likely a response to the creative setups currently deployed...

Pimp out your Safari Icon
I first noticed Michael Flarup (@flarup) when I stumbled upon his iTunes icon set. Adding a little customization to your OS can be fun. This particular tweak isn’t complicated. If you really want to pimp it out, there are apps like CandyBar & IconBox that help you manage and organize icons.
Parking lot idea: Syncing OS icon profiles across devices with DropBox.

On BCS
Jim Harbaugh apparently NOW sees the light. Seems like most folks don’t care about changing the BCS until it affects their school. I hope in this lifetime the BCS system changes. It’s wrecking college football. Conferences are constructed by money not rivalries.
The system creates an environment that makes it nearly impossible for schools outside the bubble to raise their programs...

On Success
I like this. Success is a difficult word to define. It means different things to different people. As it should. Have you defined it?

How to reset your printing system on a mac when...
Getting a lag running MacBook Air in Teleport mode with iMac. So I’ve been monitoring network and hard drive activity to see what might be slowing things down. Right away I noticed the print management “cupsd” service running hot. Update to 10.6.5 from 10.6.4 garbages up the code launching the service. The solution is to reset your printing system. This little trick clears it out...
